Avoiding Work From Home Scams

by Chris on September 6, 2009

There are plenty of great work at home businesses out there, but far too many people starting out in Internet business or work from home business find themselves getting caught out by scams, and losing money. Unfortunately there are a lot of so called work at home businesses which are out there looking only to rip off honest people who want nothing more than to be able to support themselves from home. Unfortunately, while the Internet is a great resource for learning more about work at home opportunities, it also provides a very easy platform for frauds and scamsters.

The most important thing to do before investing in any work from home business is some good, solid research. There are numerous sites on the Internet that provide information about well known scams, and if you can’t find anything about a particular business opportunity, there are also excellent forums you can ask about it in.

There are many websites that host discussion groups and forums about scams, and also have articles from victims of work at home scams. Sometimes reading about what someone else has gone through can be a big help in knowing what to look out for in the way of home business opportunities.

What if you have already become the victim of a work at home scam? Fortunately, there are places you can turn to, and there are many people willing to give solid advice to help you get your money back, or to give you advice about where to go from here.

Start by visiting fraud.org, which is the official site for the national Fraud Information Center. They have listings of work at home scams, both online and offline ones. They may also assist you if you have been scammed. Another site is bbb.org, which is the official website of the Better Business Bureau. They specialize in helping victims of work at home scams. Scambusters.org is another excellent resource for victims of scams, particularly Internet scams. Finally, there’s worldwidescam.com, which publishes articles about work at home scams. You’ll also find many more resources about work from home scams through a quick Google search.

Remember, if you have been scammed there are often people out there who will help you get your money refunded, and if the company refuses to cooperate, there are sometimes other ways you can deal with the problem (including credit card chargebacks, if you paid via credit card). If, on the other hand, you are fortunate enough never to have fallen prey to a scammer, then you can still protect yourself by doing research before buying into any online or offline business opportunity. When armed with the right information you know what to look for, so you can be rest assured that when you do shell out hard earned money, you’ll get something in return.

Qualities You Need To Work From Home

by Chris on September 5, 2009

Not everybody can work from home. You should have certain qualities within you to be successful as a mother doing home business. You should always have the initiative to start your work on your own. In other forms of work there would be a person called your boss to monitor your work and to guide you through the problems that you face in your work place. But here in a home business you are the boss and the employee. You should know how to solve the problem yourself and if you couldn’t, you should know where to go for help to solve the problem in hand.

In some businesses like multi level marketing, you may get assistance from the MLM Company though the training they give. In other businesses you have to evaluate yourself to see if you have the necessary skills needed for your business. If you lack skill in some area you have to look for improving your skills through seminars and courses that are available periodically in the institutions. For example, if you are planning to work as a ghost writer, then you might need good written communication skills. If you lack in this then you can approach any institution that teaches good written communication skills.

Any business that you choose to do from home should be taken after evaluating your special skills that are needed for that business. This ensures that you are starting your business right away without much effort. Since you choose that business based on certain qualities of yours it is easy to run that home business. A person who sees anything in a different perspective is a good person for photography business. Similarly each and every business needs different skills. If they hone their skills they can become very successful in that home business. In some businesses you have to be a team player to be successful.

Another important quality that you need to become successful is to look for the positives and the negatives in any business. You should also be well organized to do any business. Proper documentation of your transactions in a hard copy or soft copy is necessary. You should have your own office setup at home. This ensures that you are organized in your work. An attitude to contact a lot of people and maintaining their contact is necessary if you are in direct sales and other sales.

Proper scheduling your work and sticking to the schedule is also important to accomplish your tasks on time and quality. Working from home has a lot of distractions in the form of your family. You have to allot time to your family and have to schedule accordingly so that your work is not disturbed. You should have the aptitude to learn throughout your life and should be willing to invest money earned back in to your business to grow. Allot appropriate time for the task ahead. Better time management is necessary to become successful in home business. If you are basically a time manager then any home business is for you.

Computer Based Work From Home Jobs

by Chris on September 4, 2009

Now that most of us have home computers, it’s becoming easier than ever to find work from home jobs. With a few skills, a computer and an Internet connection, many people have been able to say goodbye to the daily commute and have found the freedom of working for themselves.

Of course, working for yourself on your home computer doesn’t come without its own set of problems! First of all, there are still far fewer work at home jobs than there are regular jobs (although more and more companies are outsourcing work as a way of saving office space and keeping costs down).

Many people would love to work from home, but aren’t sure where to begin. Naturally, one place to start looking is the Internet, but even so, many places advertising work from home jobs have outdated listings, and there is a lot of competition involved.

Another way of finding a work from home job is to speak to local businesses in your area. If you’ve got skills they need, they may consider giving you some part time work which you can do at home on your computer (and if they like what you do, it could lead to full time employment). Of course, finding work this way could take some time, and you’ll need to prepare yourself for a lot of rejection!

There are other ways to find work online, but for most people it doesn’t come in the form of a stable job. Many people find freedom by freelancing their services, using companies such as Guru, Elance or Rentacoder and bidding on projects they’re particularly suited to. However, it’s a very competitive market out there, and there are people willing to work for very low rates of pay, and if you’re just starting out you may need to be prepared to work for well below what you’re worth. However, many people have found ongoing work this way, and many earn a very decent income doing it.

Other people find success at building their own businesses from their home computer. Some do so selling their own products, or sourcing wholesale products to sell at retail prices, and others sell electronic products or sell as an affiliate. However, the fact is that most people who go online with the aim of earning a full time living from their home computer, discover that the reality is much more of a challenge than they bargained for. Starting a business online can be very challenging, and can take a great deal of time, meaning that it’s not necessarily a great idea to quit your job just because you’ve got a fabulous idea for an Internet business!

Nevertheless, for those who are truly determined to work from home using their home computers, there really are many opportunities out there. Just don’t set your initial expectations too high, and be prepared for a lot of hard work and the inevitable disappointments that will strike in the beginning.

Discover the Top 5 Reasons Why to Work From Home

by Chris on September 3, 2009

Why work from home?? In the past year I have often been asked the same question over and over again. Even though I actually enjoy all the benefits of working at home and have more free time than most people, I still feel, it might be useful to give you my Top 5 reasons. This way when somebody asks me this same question again, I can just send this article and go straight back to being lazy.

1. Never again will somebody else tell you what to do. This truly is the biggest benefit of all. I am a person who has a hard time taking orders from anybody, I used to work as a Regional Manager setting up car- and motor bike workshops all over the world and although this was a job where I was on my own most of the time, there still was a board of directors telling me what to do. You will not know how good this feels till you experience it!!

2. You can start the day whenever You feel like it.
Can you remember the last time you had a late night with friends? Perhaps had a bit to much to drink.. Then you can probably also remember how you felt when you had to get up early the next morning to go to work. Wasn’t it awful? You could be doing what I do, sometimes I start at eight in the morning, sometimes I only work in the evening since I decided to spend the day with my two year old son. It is totally up to me.

3. Money keeps coming in, even if you don’t work.
This is also one which creates an amazing feeling, just try to imagine, you have been out and about enjoying a beautiful Sunday afternoon with friends or family and your money machine keeps working. You come back home and check your sales statistics and guess what.. You have made more money then you would have been able to spend that same day. Believe me, I am still checking my statistics every Sunday!!

4. There are no limits to what you can earn on line. Once you have discovered how to make something profitable on line, either through work at home offers or selling something through your own web site, you can do it over and over again. That is the beauty of the internet, you can make your work at home business almost fully automatic which means you can keep repeating. Like I said, No Limits.

5. You have the unique opportunity to help others.
In the normal business making a good income often means thinking of yourself instead of helping other people. In the on line community the best way to making a good income is by helping others. The more ways you find to educate and stimulate people on how to become successful on line and help them along the way, the more you will be rewarded. That’s the way I like to do business and it puts a smile on my face while thinking about it.

Well, there you have it, my personal top 5 on why you should start to work from home. I sincerely hope that these reasons will stimulate you to keep on searching for that one opportunity you need to become successful on line. Believe me, there are plenty off people out there capable of pointing you in the right direction.

Legitimate work-from-home Internet business is a goldmine waiting to be mined. In fact, with profits in excess of a billion dollars a year being made on the Internet, work-at-home business, whether online or off, is a potential treasure chest waiting to be opened. The real treasure, of course, is the freedom and independence you achieve when you succeed in making your living “off the grid” with your own legitimate home income. Rest assured, legitimate work at home opportunities do exist.

Home business on the Internet is thriving. Think, more and more people with already esablished businesses are expanding onto the Internet. More and more people are using the Internet to generate additional, supplementary streams of income, and more and more people are turning to the legitimate opportunities of home-based Internet business as their primary source of livlihood.

The beauty of this is that for the relatively low cost of an Internet connection, you can sell your products and services to local, regional, national, and international customers. It doesn’t matter how big or small your business, whether or not you have a huge inventory, or an inventory of one product. In fact, with the Internet, your product can be purely digital, that is, exist only as information available for automatic download after payment. The point is that for the price of an Internet connection, you can reach potential customers all over the world.

True work-at-home opportunity, true success in legitimate work-from-home business lies in your vision and imagination. There are now many online businesses that provide you with tools to help you use the Internet to realize your dream of independence. Many offer much that is free to help you better understand your own needs and wants, and to better understand where you need to spend money. Do not be tempted by the next latest craze or fad, but rather pay attention to products that have stood the test of time or have otherwise proven themselves. Even though the technology may change, the essence of business does not.

Remember, the principles of legitimate business, whether work-from-home on the Internet or not, remain the same. No single e-book, or Internet marketing software or website tool by itself will provide the answer to the One Big Secret. These are merely tools, after all. By themselves, blueprints, hammers, and saws cannot build a house; that task remains up to you!

The Pitfalls of the Work From Home Craze

by Chris on September 1, 2009

More than 4 million people currently have the good fortune of working from home. From major corporations letting their key people set up a home office to the many inspiring home based business owners. Having the ability to set your own hours is the key benefit in choosing to work from home.

Home based businesses are continuing to grow at an incredible rate. The Internet has opened a window of opportunity for business ventures that were once impossible to build in a home office environment. The Small Business Administrations Office of Advocacy claims over 50 percent of all small businesses are home based and will continue to grow.

Working from home is not always a bed of roses. It is common for most that work from home to become workaholics. Having your work or business accessible 24 hours a day makes it hard to know when to quit for the day.

The fact is that working from home is enjoyable and you can get sucked into becoming a slave to your home business. You need to know when to step back and smell the roses. Setting up specific work hours for each day is key to not falling into a workaholic bottomless pit.

When it is quitting time – turn off the computer and turn the volume on the phone or answering machine down low. Take charge of your home business, do not let it take charge of you.

Most choose to work from home to gain a better quality of life, spending more time with family and the freedom a home business offers is a big draw. If you do not set some basic standards you will loose focus on your intentions, working even more hours than the 9 to 5 job you left.

Some key points to being productive and not overworking yourself.

Set up a work schedule based on the demands of your life style and stick to it.

Prioritize your work – set a daily, weekly and monthly to do list.

Interruptions and Distractions – even though you are at home you are still at work. Make sure family and friends know your work schedule. If your home office is near a TV, turn if off during work hours.

Procrastinating – Do not put off projects or tasked that need to be completed, they will only start to pile up adding stress to your work from home environment.

Take time for lunch – be sure to squeeze in time for a small break or lunch. Breaking up the day will keep you focused, energetic and will reduce any stress that may be building up throughout the day.

Working from home is a dream for many and can be a nightmare for others. Staying focused and not overworking is hard, but the benefits of a work from home business should give you the freedom and financial life style that you are in search of. This can only be archived if YOU are in control of your home business

Blackjack Card Counter!

by Chris on July 5, 2009

The Nevada Gaming Control Board sent a memo to all casinos in the state of Nevada warning them of the existence of this application. They stated “Once this program is installed on the phone through the I-tunes website it can make counting cards easy. The program calculates the ‘True Count’ and does it significantly more accurately”

Since the memo was released warning about “A Blackjack Card Counter” there’s been an unprecedented demand for this gambling app.

Blackjack Card Counter is a unique application for the iPhone and iPod touch. Beware of imitations!

It allows any blackjack player, professional or amateur to keep track of their card count.

** Count Vibrate **

When Count Vibrate is turned on your iPhone or iPod will vibrate when the true count reaches the value you specify. The value can be changed in the info section. This best used in stealth mode.

** True Count **

Blackjack Card Counter calculates the “True Count” for you and does it more accurately than manual methods. As buttons are pressed in the app the total counted cards are recorded. This is then adjusted to take into account cards that aren’t recorded. A “total cards dealt” number is determined which is then divided by 52 to represent total decks dealt. This number is then used in the “True Count” calculation.

You can adjust the number of decks in the shoe by going to the info screen.

** Card Counting Methods **

For each strategy press the button that contains the face value of the cards as they are drawn from the deck. Depending on the strategy and on the value of the card the button will either add or subtract 1 or 2 from the “Running Count”.

Hi-Lo – Low cards 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 (add 1 to total). High cards 10, J, Q, K and A (subtract 1 from total).

Hi-Op I – Low cards 3, 4, 5, and 6 (add 1 to total). High cards 10, J, Q and K (subtract 1 from total).

Hi-Op II – Low cards 2, 3, 6 and 7 (add 1 to total) 4 and 5 (add 2 to total). High cards 10, J, Q and K (subtract 2 from total).

Omega II – Low cards 2 and 3 (add 1 to total) 4, 5 and 6 (add 2 to total). High cards 10, J, Q and K (subtract 2 from total).

After a shuffle the new deck button should be pressed to set the tally back to 0.

** Stealth Mode **

The stealth button makes the screen go black. You can continue to press the “+1″, “+2″, “-1″, “-2″ and “new deck” buttons as normal. You just need to remember where they are. To get back out of stealth mode simply press the top half of the screen.

** Basic Strategy **

As most blackjack players know if you stick to the Basic Strategy for blackjack the house has a small advantage. But if you can keep count of the number of High and Low ranked cards in the pack you can gain a small advantage. You do this by betting more when there are more High cards still in the deck.

You have an advantage when more high cards are in the deck particularly near the end of the shoe.

This small advantage, around 1%, over a long period of time can result in huge wins.

This card counter is great for learning to count cards or for playing blackjack with your friends. While counting cards is deemed legal, electronic card counting devices are illegal in many casinos. Therefore I would not recommend using this app in a casino as you could get into a lot of trouble.

Web Based Casinos

by Chris on March 8, 2009

Web-based online casinos are sites at which players can directly play casino games without having to download and/or run any software from their own computer. Games are mainly represented in the browser plug-ins Macromedia Flash, Macromedia Shockwave, or Java and require respective browser support. So, users actually must have considerable bandwidth to load the graphics, sounds, and animations since these all come from the site, itself, and require the web-browser plug-ins (which most internet users already use anyway for all kinds of other websites; online newspapers, entertainment sites, etc.).

A very small number of casinos allow games played through a plain HTML interface and the graphics on these sites are generally quite inferior to those provided through download-based casinos. Another huge difference is the speed of games. This is generally hampered by bandwidth restrictions, traffic, etc. Disconnection problems can be a huge disturbance as well. Generally speaking, most of the bigger casinos prefer to use download-based software and you’ll find a much larger choice of games and options with these sites.

Download-based online casinos are the most common and popular casino sites on the web. Here, users have to download certain software in order to play that casino’s games. Once the software is installed, it connects to the casino service provider and handles contact without browser support. The biggest advantage here is SPEED. All the graphics and animations are included in the software and run from the computer instead of the internet.

The only downside, of course, is the initial download and the need for the installation of the program. Some people worry as well about the risk of downloading a virus and/or spyware but so long as you’re acquiring software from reliable sites and use a solid anti-virus program, this shouldn’t be a problem. In any case, read the fine print before downloading any of this software and if you find something you don’t like, choose another casino – there are MANY out there!

Another form of technology which is relatively new is Flash-based software which offers the same benefits of downloaded software without the download. However, for the time being, download-based sites remain the most popular and strongest choice among players and it’s hard to beat the benefits (better graphics, increased speed, reliability, etc.) associated with this type of site.

Go to my Method page to read about a sure-fire way to win at online casinos, and two “download” type online casinos that will not cause you any problems.

15 Rules for Success In Your Home-Based Business

by Chris on February 23, 2009

Rule 1 – It ain’t as bad as you think, it will look better in the morning

If there’s one experience universal to ALL home-business owners, particularly those running a business on the internet, it’s the occasional feeling that you’re just spinning your wheels, and not getting anywhere. The number of people who give up on their businesses just as they approach the brink of success is staggering. So hang in there and remind yourself, when things look bleak, that tomorrow is another day, things really aren’t as bad as they seem and things really WILL look better in the morning.

Rule 2 – Get mad, then get over it

OK, I concede this is more general advice than home-business advice but it applies in your home business just as it does anywhere else. Resentment and unexpressed anger really don’t hurt anyone but the person feeling resentful and angry. Have you ever noticed how completely unproductive you are when burdened by resentment and anger? So feel it, express it (constructively) and then move on. As the man said, “get over it”.

Rule 3 – Avoid having your ego so close to your position that when your position falls your ego goes with it

Over the course of my career I have, from time to time, met people whose identity and sense of self-worth is so enmeshed in what they do for a living that they literally don’t have an identity outside of their work. Because they rely on an external source for their self-esteem and confidence, they find it necessary to continually and relentlessly bolster their personal positions, often at the expense of others, often resorting to political maneuvring in the workplace to maintain and improve their supposed ‘status’.

These people are the ‘empire builders’ you sometimes find in organizations. They jealously guard their power base all the while gathering unto themselves more and more responsibility, beyond the point of being able to do everything they take on.

Because their identity and sense of self-worth depends upon their position within their organization, what happens when their position disappears, such as in a corporate downsizing? It freefalls.

Don’t let this happen to you. Remember that you are something separate and distinct from your business. Sure, you can be proud and pleased with your accomplishments but don’t define yourself through them. Your self-worth is something that comes from inside your human self, not your business.

Ironically, keeping a professional detachment is more likely to secure the ultimate success of your business. Detachment brings perspective, objectivity and clarity, which helps you make better quality decisions.

Rule 4 – It can be done

Don’t allow self-imposed limitations to restrict what you can and will do. You can do anything if you set your mind to it. Well, of course, it must be something that is within your power – you can’t just set your mind on growing a third arm, for example.

But for anything that is within human power and capability, the saying “where there’s a will is a way” is so true.

Get into the discipline of planning your life and where you want it to go. By setting goals and planning the steps that will help you reach them, you can achieve literally anything your heart desires.

Rule 5 – Be careful what you choose, you may get it

Following on from this, it should go without saying that what you set for your goals is something you truly want because if you do practice the discipline of goal setting you will surely get it.

Rule 6 – Don’t let adverse facts stand in the way of a good decision

Keep your eye on the prize and don’t be distracted by what’s happening on the sidelines. Sure, you may not have entered the marathon had you known there were going to be 1,000 other runners but does that mean entering the marathon was a bad idea? No.

Make your decisions based on quality information and what’s in the best interests of your business. If someone else comes along who represents competition for your business, don’t be put off your game. Just run your own race. There’s ALWAYS a way to distinguish yourself from your competition.

Rule 7 – You can’t make someone else’s choices. You shouldn’t let someone else make yours

IGNORE your mother when she tells you you’re crazy for chucking in your nice SAFE secure little job to start your own business. Follow your dream, no-one else’s.

Rule 8 – Check small things

Like the fine print in contracts. Like the URL in that sales letter you’ve just put the finishing touches on. Like your spelling and punctuation. In other words, pay attention to detail.

Rule 9 – Share credit

You’ve heard the saying, “no man is an island”. No woman is either. Remember and acknowledge the people who have helped and continue to help you get where you want to go. Acknowledge the achievements of others.

Rule 10 – Remain calm, be careful

Frenzy and recklessness are hardly the prescription for long-term success in your business. In the face of unexpected challenges, unexplained downturns in business or failure to achieve the results expected, recognize that these are just part of the thrust and parry of business life and use a calm, methodical approach to the problem.

Don’t just react blindly or chuck away all your hard work and try something completely different unless a thorough, calm and careful investigation convinces you that you are completely off-beam.

Calmly analyze your situation and use your intelligence to correct the situation. Sometimes a one degree turn of the wheel is all that is required to get back on course, not a completely new rudder.

Rule 11 – Have a vision, be demanding

This rule goes hand in hand with rules 4 and 5. In order to set goals and plan ways to achieve them you must first set your vision. Think big, be brave. There is nothing you can’t achieve so make sure your efforts are going to be for something truly worthwhile.

Rule 12 – Don’t take counsel of your fears or naysayers

All of us have moments of self-doubt or even fear when embarking on a journey to an unknown destination. If what you have planned for yourself brings with it feelings of anxiety, nervousness, even fear, pay attention to them but don’t take their counsel.

They are symptoms of grand thinking, of stretching beyond the boundaries of your comfort zone. As the book says, feel the fear and do it anyway.

Rule 13 – Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier

This rule is closely related to rule 1. Believe that things will work out, that they will look better in the morning, that everything’s going to be OK. Repeat the words to yourself as a mantra if you must but instill a spirit of indomitable optimism in your outlook and you will attract success into your life.

Rule 14 – Sometimes being responsible means pissing people off

You can’t please all of the people all of the time so don’t waste your time or energy even trying. You have a responsibility to the ultimate success of your business and to your own personal success. If that means you occasionally have to say no to people to stay true to your objectives, do it. If it means you have to alienate some people because they don’t personally agree with what you are doing, that’s their problem.

In other words, stay focused on your plan. If others don’t like it or agree with it, too bad.

Rule 15 – You never know what you can get away with unless you try

If you don’t ask you don’t get. And if you don’t take you don’t get. Leave nothing on the table. If an opportunity comes along, take it. It may not come again. And remember, in chaos there is opportunity. While everyone else is running around like chooks with their heads cut off, you just bring up the rear and clean up on all the opportunities that are just lying there for the taking among the chicken scratch.

Hindsight truly is 20/20, no doubt about it. Perhaps, like me, you’re thinking that if you’d known then what you know now, you would have gone a lot further a lot faster. But as with any form of progress, it’s the journey, not the destination, that provides the education and creates the experience and, through it, wisdom. And that’s something no book can teach you and money can’t buy.
